Are you worrying about your four-legged companion's well-being while waiting for you back in your Tesla? Well, soon, you'll have no reason for concern as Tesla's poised to introduce a "Dog Mode" to keep dogs cool and calm inside while they wait for your return.

Following a series of tweet exchanges between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and some inquiring users, it seems like Tesla looks at ways to implement a "Dog Mode" that will keep the temperature inside the car cool, or warm, depending on the season, to have them relaxed until the owners come back.

While it's unknown when will this mode will drop, supposedly as part of an upcoming system update; it isn't Tesla's first feature of this kind. The American manufacturer released two years ago the Cabin Overheat Protection mode which does exactly what its name suggests it would.

Tesla's Dog Mode: good or a scapegoat for misuse?

Tesla is known for always looking to find new and inventive ways to improve their cars, and a lot of it is done via periodical system updates. Remember the "Mad Max" mode update for Tesla's Autopilot system? Stuff like that.

Now, a Twitter user by the name of Josh Atchley suggested to Elon Musk, who's always active on the social media platform, that Tesla should come forth with a dog-friendly mode that would keep our canine friends happy inside the American EVs.

Atchley's idea of having the radio and A/C system stay on while the owners are away to keep the animal(s) inside from falling victim to an overheating cabin was greeted by a firm "Yes" from Musk.

Right after, another Twitter user, Justin Horn, came up with the idea of having the temperature inside the car to show on the car's huge infotainment screen integrated into the center stack. Atchley already pointed out that it'd be useful to have the center screen display a message to reassure people passing by the car that there's no for concern over the pet's safety.

Again, Musk agreed. As such, we can imagine that Tesla's already hard at work developing this system. This means that it will most likely be quite sophisticated and it will let you control the ambiance inside the car remotely. What we don't know is when the update will become available and what, precisely, it will comprise of.

This is, in any case, good news for Tesla owners who also own dogs or other pets they might have to, temporarily, leave in their vehicles. However, as Twitter user Benjamin Nelson rightly pointed out, a well-oiled system can be a getaway ticket for negligent parents to leave their kids inside the car alone.

Tesla has already released the Cabin Overheat Protection mode as part of its V8 system update in 2016. Back then, an official Tesla statement read that "In an industry-first safety measure, we’re also introducing Cabin Overheat Protect, focused on child (and pet) safety. This feature keeps the car at a safe temperature for hours, even when the car is off. This feature is only made possible by an electric vehicle with Tesla’s uniquely large battery packs."

The new feature should build on what Cabin Overheat Protection offer which could be, as previously mentioned, an excuse for some parents or pet owners to leave their children or animals unattended for hours upon hours on end with the excuse that the car's taking care of keeping them safe inside. While this might be the case, it's important to remember that it's never a good idea to leave a child or an animal for that matter, alone in a car for extended stints of time as you never know when they could start feeling nervous or unwell.

Nevertheless, this isn't the only Tesla owner suggestion that Musk has answered to in the past few months as Tesla has begun to roll out the V9 version of its software. Expect this feature as well as multiple other goodies to come out as part of future updates.
