Although we are sure it needs no introduction, Donkervoort is a Netherlands-based company founded in 1978 by Joop Donkervoort. During its 44 years of history, Donkervoort never sold a car in the U.S. But now, responding to growing demand from local customers and despite its two-year waiting list in Europe, Donkervoort starts accepting orders from U.S. customers too. The first model - a D8 GTO Individual Series - will be sold through its local partner Bespoke Imports Group.

Managing Director Denis Donkervoort confirmed that he set aside production for its entry into the U.S. a year ago. However, the company's entry on the American market took time "because we needed to guarantee our partner had the same ideals of extreme customer service and customization that we demand." He is expecting American customers to show the same interest in his car as the European one: "Inquiries from the US rank second behind only Europe, despite our supercars never being sold there, so we know enthusiasts in the United States are aware of what Donkervoort delivers."

"This is pure customer demand, and the people who kept asking us to come to America already know about our extreme customer service, our hand-built craftsmanship and the no-compromises performance of our cars. We are starting small, but Donkervoort has very big plans for the USA and hypercar technology at a supercar price is the perfect recipe for success here."

What powers the Donkervoort D8 GTO Individual Series?

The D8 GTO Individual Series is powered by an Audi-sourced 2.5-liter inline-five turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 435 horsepower and 427 pound-feet of torque. Just to compare things, a Porsche 911 Turbo equipped with the Sport Chrono Package does the 0 to 60 mph sprint in the same 2.7 seconds. There is no word on what transmission Donkervoort will offer in the States, but in Europe the model is offered with a standard five-speed manual transmission, with a six-speed sequential gearbox available as an option.
