Watch a tuned McLaren 720S try to rip the Ferrari SF90 Stradale to shreds in this drag race for the agesby Sidd Dhimaan, on
Brooks from ‘DragTimes’ took his Ferrari SF90 Stradale to the drag strip for a fight against a McLaren 720S. The 720S isn’t stock. It features upgraded intake, downpipes, and is tuned to make close to 900 horses at the wheel. This puts the power outputs very close to the SF90 Stradale’s. Do you think the British can one-up the Italian hybrid beast here, or will the latter prevail?
How Much Power Do They Make?
The McLaren 720S is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine. It features upgraded downpipes, intakes, and is tuned. The mill puts out 889 horses at the wheels, which is approximately over 1,000 at the crank.
A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox powers the rear wheels exclusively. This 720S is equipped with Toyo R888R tires and weighs around 3,115 pounds.
The Ferrari SF90 Stradale features a hybrid setup – a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 mill along with three electric motors. The combined output is 986 ponies and 590 pound-feet of twist.
An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission routes power to all four wheels. There are no mods made to it and it was equipped with Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tires for this race. The SF90 Stradale weighs 3,550 pounds, thanks to the motors and the battery.
How Did The Races Go?
The SF90 Stradale got off to a blistering start in the first run, but Brooks jumped the start. So, the McLaren 720S won this race by disqualification. If you were to compare the times, the Ferrari took 9.521 seconds at 146.61 mph to complete the quarter-mile sprint, whereas the McLaren took 9.609 seconds at 147.25 mph.
The second race was legit and the SF90 Stradale defeated the 720S comprehensively. It took 9.590 seconds at 145.64 mph to reach the finish line. The McLaren, on the other hand, finished the race in 9.888 seconds at a trap speed of 146.34 seconds. A win for the Ferrari means the scores are tied and the final race will decide the winner.
The 720S got a much better start in the third race, but the Stradale zoomed past a few seconds into the race and went on to eventually win. The Ferrari got done with the straight-line sprint in 9.570 seconds at 145.59 mph, whereas the McLaren was a tad bit slow, taking 9.715 seconds at 146.89 mph.
So, in the end, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale beat the McLaren 720S 2-1. If not for the disqualification loss, this could’ve been 3-0. Watch the race below and share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
