Drag Race: Watch An 1,100-Horsepower, Twin-Turbo Lamborghini Huracan Take On A Supercharged Kawasaki H2R On The Drag Strip

This epic drag race between a tuned Lamborghini Huracan and a Kawasaki H2R is one to remember for ages

The team at ‘Carwow’ brought a Lamborghini Huracan to the drag strip for a series of straight-line races. Instead of pitting it against another car from its segment, they brought in a superbike to take it on. This superbike is a Kawasaki H2R that comes with a supercharged engine and boasts of a better power-to-ratio. This is despite the fact that the Lamborghini Huracan is far from stock and makes over 1,000 horses. Which of these beasts do you think will win?

This Race Is Quite Unpredictable

The Lamborghini Huracan is powered by a 5.2-liter, V-10 engine with two turbos. It puts out 1,100 horses and 811 pound-feet of torque. It weighs 1,450 kilos (3,197 pounds)

Let’s get the specs out of the way first. The Lamborghini Huracan generally comes with a 5.2-liter, V-10 naturally aspirated engine, but this example is fitted with two turbos.

Courtesy of this, it puts out 1,100 horses and 811 pound-feet of torque.

All four wheels are powered via a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. It weighs 1,450 kilos (3,197 pounds).

The Kawasaki H2R features a 1.0-liter, four-cylinder supercharged engine that makes 310 horses and 122 pound-feet of torque. It weighs 214 kilos (472 pounds)
The Kawasaki H2R features a 1.0-liter, four-cylinder supercharged engine that makes 310 horses and 122 pound-feet of torque.

It weighs 214 kilos (472 pounds) The way to compare two different species is their power-to-weight ratio.

The Huracan has a power-to-weight ratio of 759 HP/ton, whereas the H2R has a ratio of 1,054 HP/ton, which includes the weight of the rider as well.

The first set of rounds included a series of drag races. In the first couple of gears, it was hard to keep the bike’s nose grounded, which led to it literally doing a wheelie for more than half the distance in the first drag race. Goes without saying that the Kawasaki lost this race. In the second race, they decided to let the bike get a head start and let the Lambo start a couple of seconds later. However, this didn’t look good for the supercar as the Kawasaki capitalized on the lead and went on to win the race.

For the third standing drag race, they tried it again like the first race – the conventional race where they start together. The result was also the same as the first race – the H2R losing to the Huracan. The Lamborghini Huracan completed the quarter-mile in 9.4 seconds, whereas the Kawasaki H2R did it in 9.9 seconds.

Just to create a level playing field, they tried a rolling race of sorts and started in the first gear. Once they touched the starting line, they’d go full throttle. This was done to help keep the bike ‘grounded’. It actually worked, because the Lamborghini was quicker off the line, but the bike caught up soon after and won at the half-mile distance.

Next up was the rolling race from 65 mph in third gear. They both had similar kickdowns, but post that, it was the bike’s race to win and the Huracan couldn’t do anything about it. There was no way the Lamborghini could win a rolling race, so they didn’t even attempt any more of them.

The final round was the brake test from 100 mph. The Lamborghini stopped at a much shorter distance, which was expected. But, overall, a great showing by the Kawasaki H2R as well as the twin-turbocharged Huracan.
