These days, well-preserved Subaru Impreza 22Bs get sold for as much as $370,000. And for good reason. The 22B is one of the rarest Subies out there, simply because it was a special, road-legal interpretation of Subaru's Impreza WRX rally car fitted with a larger engine, a widebody kit, and gold-painted wheels.

Just 424 Subaru Impreza 22B units were made, and just 24 got out of Japan as export cars. Needless to say, seeing one is an event in it of itself, while owning and driving one doesn’t come by unless you’re the carrier of a fat bank account and you also happen to love JDM cars.

This is where gaming comes to play. Titles such as Forza Horizon 4 or even more reality-focused ones such as Assetto Corsa provide a sanctuary for gearheads that can’t get their hands on a 22B. And it’s inside this virtual medium that you can transform into Colin McRae and bury that accelerator.

Speaking of which, there’s a gameplay video below that shows what it’s like to hoon the 22B in Assetto Corsa like it’s the end of the world. It’s also the closest thing to racing one so we’ll take it any day of the week.
