Yeah… probably best to take this with a grain of salt.

Elon Musk’s Twitter account has led to some pretty outrageous things. Of course, he’s made some pretty crazy claims too, but a lot of them come to life. Think about the Tesla Roadster floating through space or The Boring Company’s flame gun, for example. All seemed unbelievable and yet they really happened. Now, Musk is on Twitter again, this time with the claim that the Model Y will debut on March 15. Well, then he said it’s made up, but March sounds good. And, then said to consider it real and that March 15th is “about right.”

When Will the Tesla Model Y Debut?

It might be best to not hold your breath right now. Musk claims that the debut could happen anywhere between late this year to mid next year. That’s a pretty big window, especially when you consider the fact that there’s still a lot of drama surrounding the Model 3. Tesla can’t even get the Model 3’s production rolling the right way, and who knows what’s going on with the Tesla Semi. Add a small SUV into that production nightmare, and things could do unbelievably unstable very quickly. With that said, Tesla is always way behind on its projected production and delivery dates.

So, if the Model Y debuts on March 15th, it’ll probably make it to production by mid-2020. That is assuming, of course, that Musk can stick to the overzealous time frame that he always sets and always misses. Not hating on the man, just speaking facts. It happened with the Model S, it happened with the Model X, and now it’s happening with the Model 3. Logic would certainly dictate that the Model Y will fall victim to the same fate.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and see. We’re certainly looking forward to seeing the Model Y, but if Tesla’s past is representative of what will happen, there’s going to be some trouble along the way. What do you think? When will the Model Y really debut? Let us know in the comments section below.
