Round Five of the 2022 season saw a lot of drama unfold at the inaugural Miami F1 Grand Prix
We saw Max Verstappen going after the Ferrari's in the opening stage of the race. He managed to get past Sainz at the first corner on the first lap
Come lap 9, the reigning F1 champion got past LeClerc down the main start-finish straight
Things were pretty monotonous from there on until lap 39, when Alonso hit Gasly, damaging the Frenchman's car
A slow-moving Gasly was caught by Lando Norris
It the British driver to suffer a puncture and brought out the safety car
This perfectly played out in Mercedes' favor, and George Russel came in for a cheap pitstop
On the restart, Perez on fresher medium tires went after Carlos in P3, but the Ferrari driver managed to keep the Mexican at bay
The closing stages saw more drama unfold as Mick Schumacher collided with compatriot Sebastien Vettel
Bottas meanwhile made a costly mistake going wide at turn 17, which allowed the Mercedes pair to take 5th and 6th respectively
Although LeClerc was within striking distance of Max with DRS, there just wasn't enough time for the Ferrari to get past
As Max manged to fend off the threat from the Monegasque and take the chequered flag after a sweltering 57 laps
LeClerc and Sianz joined Max to complete the podium. Perez was P4 at the line with the Mercs of Russel and Hamilton in P5 and P6
Bottas was P7 and the two Alpine drivers, Ocon and Alonso took P8 and P9. Thai driver Alex Albon managed to score a point as well, with his Williams to complete the top 10
As things stand, Charles is still in the championship lead with 105 points, against Max's 85 points and his Mexican teammate in third with 66 points. Next Stop, Spain.
