Just as BMW has unveiled the facelifted 2023 8 Series, it was pretty much expected that the high-performance M8 will also be unveiled shortly afterward. Here's the equally-new BMW M8, which is now offered solely in Competition form.

Similar to the 8 Series, blink and you'll probably miss the minor updates that were made to the M8 Competition. There's a new M Shadowline detail on the headlights as standard along with new colors choices, namely Skyscraper Grey, Brooklyn Grey, and Isle of Man Green. Those who want an even more striking color palette can look at the duo of BMW Individual paint finishes called Tanzanite Blue II and Frozen Pure Grey.

The bumper itself is unchanged, but the vents now have a revised mesh pattern. It also does not get the illuminated Iconic Glow grille of the 2023 8 Series.

Inside, the 2023 BMW M8 Competition now comes with a bigger 12.3-inch screen for the iDrive 7 infotainment system, which replaces the 10.25-inch unit. We do wish that BMW fitted the M8 Competition with the iDrive 8's curved glass display from the iX and i4, though we suspect re-engineering the interior of a low volume vehicle wouldn't be worth it in the long run.

There are also new (albeit optional) M Carbon bucket seats, which feature exposed carbon fiber sections. These seats feature heating, electronic adjustment, and an illuminated M8 logo. Additionally, there's a host of new interior color and material choices that can be matched with the upholstery of the seats.

Since BMW has now discontinued the standard M8, you're now left with the M8 Competition's uprated 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that produces 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. This is sent through all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic, with 0-60 mph happening in just 3 seconds flat. When fitted with the optional M Driver's Package, the top speed is raised to 190 mph.

And that's pretty much it for the 2023 BMW M8 Competition's updates. Production is scheduled to begin this March, with prices starting at $130,000 for the M8 Competition Coupe and GranCoupe, while the M8 Competition Convertible has a base price of $139,500. These prices do not include the $995 destination charge.
