Not everyone can afford one of the six Shelby Daytona Coupes (if you can, one is going to auction in May.) So for those who don't want to put a million dollars worth of hardware on the track, Factory Five Racing has a new kit.

More information after the jump.

For over a decade Factory Five Racing has been bringing dreams to life with their Shelby Cobra recreations combining the form of the classic racecar with modern road car technology. This particular example began as a special project car for Jack Roush to showcase as many of his company’s high performance parts at SEMA back in 2003 and in 2006 was modified to become a pace car for Champ Car’s “Fast Laps Program”. If you have dreams of racing wheel to wheel with classic Corvettes alongside legends like Dan Gurney this may just be what you have been looking for.

Factory Five description

Just like the project Champ Car Roadster this Coupe began life as another car, namely the award winning FFR-Roush Project Coupe (check out the story on the Roush Coupe a few years back).

Originally built by the R&D guys at FFR, this car served as the basis of the FFR-Roush project. When the car was originally built, it contained as many Roush catalog parts as possible, and was featured at the 2003 Las Vegas SEMA show. The car’s dash was (and still is) signed by Jack Roush. Originally the car was painted Silver and Red. The car was used for open track events and racing by FFR President Dave Smith. The car was featured at the 2003 Motor Press Guild track day at Willow Springs Raceway, and has served other promo purposes for the company since then.

In early 2006 the folks from Champ Car requested two FFR demo cars for the 2006 “Fast Laps program” (we shipped them this coupe and a roadster). The Coupe was modified with sponsor parts such as BBS wheels (which it wears here), Bridgestone tires (fitted), Ford Racing parts (350 hp EFI crate engine), and massive Brembo brakes.

The body was repainted by paint sponsor Sherwin Williams to be the new 2007 Champ Car colors of silver, orange and graphite and the full sponsor set of decals were added. Since Ford has reduced/changed sponsorship of Champ Car, the 2007 season status of the car is in limbo and it sits patiently here at Factory Five.

The car sports a full-on SCCA racing cage with fire suppression system and all race-ready accoutrements. The race cage was modified on the passenger side to make entry and exit easier for passengers (side cage bar was pulled down).

The car also has full radio communications and a really fun strobe light set-up front and rear for pace car duties.
