When asked what is the greatest kind of Ferrari, a true Ferrarista will almost always finish their answer with the same three letters, GTO. So it is truly a pleasant surprise for us to hear that the Italian super car company has decided to built a an even more powerful GTO version of the 599 GTB Fiorano. The 599 GTO will be based on the 599 XX that we saw at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and will honor the legendary 250 GTO from the 1960s.

The thoroughbred 599 will make extensive use of lightweight carbon fiber, that will drop about 300 pounds from the GT car bringing its curb weight down to 1450 kilograms. The 6.0 Liter V12 will be retuned to deliver somewhere between 680 and 700 HP making the future 599 GTO a real beast.

Set to be revealed next year at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the 599 GTO will cost owners 20-25% more than the standard model, however that will allow them to join the exclusive group of owners because Ferrari will only make 500 units. If you want one of your own then you had better hurry up because it appears that people are already placing deposits on something called the "Ferrari 599 GTO Limited Edition" with deliveries schedule to begin in October of 2010.
