Ferrari started to test a hardcore version of the SF90 - rumored to be called SF90 Versione Speciale (SF90 VS) - back in May 2022. Our spy photographers caught prototype of the next SF90 VS both on the streets of Maranello and in the Alps at an altitude of approximately 2500 meters. Most recently, Youtube user Varryx spied a SF90 VS prototype around Ferrari's factory in Maranello, Italy.

What will power the Ferrari SF90 Versione Speciale?

Although we have no details on the SF90 VS' powertrain just yet, we know it will be the most extreme version of the SF90 line-up. We also know that even if it will be a track-focused machine, the VS will be street legal, and just like the standard SF90 it will be a hybrid supercar.

Just as a reminder, the "base" SF90 is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine combined with three electric motors. The V-8 delivers a total of 769 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, while the trio of electric motors adds another 217 horsepower into the mix. Combined, the powerplant produces 986 ponies and 590 pound-feet of oomph. Power is routed to all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. We expect the VS version to offer lots of tweaks to both the combined output - with the final numbers going up to at least 1,000 horsepower - and the overall driving dynamics, improvements that will also help with the car's performance figures. We expect the 0 to 60 mph sprint to be made in less than 2.5 seconds and top speed to go higher than 211 mph. The VS version will also be lighter and will come with a tweaked suspension and improved braking system.

What will differentiate the SF90 VS from the rest of the lineup?

Although the prototypes caught testing lately were wearing lots of camouflage, it's clear that the Versione Speciale version will be a lot more aggressive than the rest of the SF90 models. The most obvious update is the massive air vent in the hood similar to the one found on the 488 Pista - an update required by the more powerful engine. Also, if the exhaust system in the SF90 ends with round pipes, in the VS version we can spot dual exhaust tips. A big wing, a more prominent splitter, and different wheels complete the exterior look.

When will the Ferrari SF90 VS arrive?

It is believed the Ferrari SF90 VS will arrive sometime this year, most likely sometime in September, with sales to begin in 2023. The model will be offered as a limited edition, which means it will be priced higher than the SF90 Stradale – which starts at $507,000.
