The hardcore SF90 will also be lighter

Ferrari and Lamborghini are known for their big, powerful V-12 engines. But V-12 engines and the new emission regulations do not go hand-in-hand, so both Italian makers are forced to make extreme changes, say good bye to V-12, and replace them with hybrid technology.

When launched, the SF90 Stradale made history: it was Ferrari’s first plug-in hybrid model featuring a propulsion technology that combines three electric motors and an overpowered V-8.

The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine produces 769 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque, while the trio of electric motors adds another 217 horsepower into the mix. As a result, the SF90 Stradale delivers a combined 986 horsepower - making it a little bit more powerful than the LaFerrari (949 horsepower).

You would think that the company will leave the SF90 Stradale to enjoy its supremacy and won’t alter it anymore. Wrong!

Youtube user Varryx spied what appears to be a more powerful version of the SF90. According to him, the new model could be called Ferrari SF90 VS (Versione Speciale) and could follow the footsteps of the 812 Superfast who also offered a 812 VS version.

Very little is known about this new SF90, but it seems it will feature a massive vent in the hood - similar to what we have seen on the 488 Pista. It will most likely hide a large air extraction vent. The prototype in the video also features a more prominent splitter, different wheels, dual exhaust tips, and of course, a rear wing.

As for the power upgrades, if Ferrari will offer the same treatment offered in the 812 VS, you should expect the SF90 VS to offer around 1,000 horsepower. It will also be lighter and will come with a tweaked suspension and improved braking system.

The new Ferrari SF90 VS should be unveiled sometime in 2023.
