Ferrari Teases New Supercar, Debut Set For September 17
Could this be a limited-run model based on the Ferrari 812 Superfast?by Kirby, on
Ferrari is the latest automaker to drop a teaser of an upcoming model, and it’s teasing a new product in the pipeline that could pave the way for a new, limited-run supercar that traces its roots to the 812 Superfast. The teaser doesn’t reveal much about the new model, but it does say that the new supercar will make its debut on September 17 at the company’s official headquarters in Maranello, Italy.
It’s a super special edition model that’s based on the Ferrari 812 Superfast
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding this new Ferrari, in large part because it was teased in a special section of the company’s official website that’s normally reserved for those who have at least one Ferrari in their collection. The secrecy even extends to the model’s codename, “Ferrari F176.”
This new supercar could go in a number of different directions depending on how people interpret the teaser. It doesn’t reveal much itself other than the date of the model’s debut and the “Icona Ferrari” lettering that was placed over what looks to be a cheeky sketch of a specific section of the model.
So, what could this model be? Well, according to Motor1, it’s a super special edition model that’s based on the Ferrari 812 Superfast. More to that, it’s rumored to carry the Ferrari 812 Monza name, a nod to the famous Italian race track that carries the same name. Rumored nomenclature aside, the supercar is also said to carry a different exterior and interior design compared to the 812 Superfast, an indication that while it does trace its roots to the 812 Superfast, it’s going to have its own identity, one that will be very limited in numbers compared to the model it’s based on.
Mechanical improvements are also expected, and that’s really where it gets interesting. If this limited edition model is, in fact, based on the 812 Superfast, it should carry the same 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V-12 engine. Should that be the case, it’s going to have at least 800 horsepower and 513 pound-feet of torque at its disposal. But owing to its limited edition status, expect the car’s output to be higher than the Superfast. No numbers have been thrown out, but it wouldn’t be out of the question if this model packed somewhere around 850 horsepower and 530 pound-feet of torque, right?

Ferrari’s recent string of special edition models could also point to the possibility that this new model will have something unique about it. The last limited run Ferrari to hit the market was the J50, which Maranello launched at the end of last year. That model was created to celebrate Ferrari’s 50-year presence in Japan, and it burst into the scene with a two-piece carbon fiber Targa top that was stored behind the seats. It was also limited to just ten units. Who’s going to bet against this new supercar having its own quirky feature and being limited to only a handful of models? Nobody?
While all of this is still largely speculation, the good news is that we won’t have to wait too long to find the answer. The newest Ferrari supercar is going to be revealed in a little over a month’s time. That’s five weeks’ worth of hype that we’re going to have to deal with before we finally see what all the fuss is about.
