Ferrari Will Take on the Lamborghini Urus with a Hybrid SUV
Could potentially be the third hybrid by Ferrariby Sidd Dhimaan, on
This news may not appeal to the purists but will surely grab attention. Earlier this year, Ferrari confirmed an SUV is in works and will be arriving in 2019 or 2020. Now it is being reported it will use a hybrid system. Are we ready for a silent SUV from a company known for its engine notes? Read on for more details.
First ever SUV in the company’s 78-year history set to be a hybrid
The Ferrari SUV's (or as Ferrari likes to call it - Ferrari Utility Vehicle) hybrid system will be a bit more straight-forward
Ferrari has been one of the first luxury sports car companies to adopt electrification in its cars. The LaFerrari was the first hybrid car from the company’s stable and was received warmly by fans and critics. However, the Ferrari SUV’s (or as Ferrari likes to call it - Ferrari Utility Vehicle) hybrid system will be a bit more straight-forward, unlike the LaFerrari’s system which is mostly used to boost performance. Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne said, " In the case of the next hybrid, I think it needs to become more traditional, in a sense, because it needs to fulfill a different role.” Currently, the company is testing mules, and recently a silent Ferrari 488 was spotted at Ferrari’s Fiorano test facility.
No matter how much exclusivity you provide to the customers, you still have to keep up with the market trends. As they say, "Improvise. Adapt. Overcome." Ten years back, no one would have, in their wildest dreams, thought of Ferrari building an SUV; let alone it being a hybrid! Given the fact that the Lamborghini Urus (at 641 horses with a top speed of 190 mph) is the fastest SUV as of the time of this writing, the Ferrari SUV is going to be even more powerful and faster, as reported by Ferrari’s CEO. Its hybrid-sibling, the LaFerrari generates 963 horses with a top speed of 217 mph. Will we see the same powertrain in the FUV? Or perhaps the one used in Ferrari 488? Let us know what you think about the upcoming FUV in the comments section below.
