Fiat’s latest 500 is a real success, so the company decided that only one version for the 500 is not enough: a convertible version is also in the work, then is the sports version Abarth, but the big news is that also a SUV version and a three-door station wagon are also under consideration.

The SUV will be a four-wheel-drive model based on the wagon. Fiat has not yet approved the new 500 station wagon. Nor has it approved a program to create an SUV by combining the station wagon body and the four-wheel-drive system from the Fiat Panda.

"By the end of the year, we expect to decide on the 500 [wagon] and SUV," a Fiat executive told Automotive News Europe under condition of anonymity.

In a video presented last week at the official launch of the 500, the company presented a station wagon concept. Like the original 500 Giardiniera launched in 1960, the potential new model shown in the video is a three-door wagon.

The original 500 Giardiniera was 212mm longer than the original 500 hatchback — 3182mm compared with 2970mm for the hatchback — including an additional 100mm of wheelbase.
