To be among the first to own the newest and shiniest hardware has always been coveted, and that still held true as the opportunity for ownership of the first production 2015 Ford Mustang rolled across the Barret-Jackson auction block on Saturday, January 18th.

The winning bidder will pay Ford->ke31 a handsome sum of $300,000 for the Mustang after a back-and-forth bidding war between the competing contenders. What’s more, all the proceeded will be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a foundation whose purpose is researching treatments and cures for Type 1 diabetes in children.

Although the deep blue 2015 Mustang->ke428 was on the block, it isn’t the one up for auction. The lucky winner will get to custom order their 5.0-liter-powered GT with either the six-speed manual or six-speed automatic; with any interior and exterior color Ford offers; and any factory-optioned striping combination. The Mustang will be the first off the assembly line when production begins later this year.
