There are a ton of speculations out there about famous products and their future. The new Ford Bronco hasn’t even settled in yet, but there were talks about its future already. While some prefer having discussions amongst their peers, some folks decide to question the head of the company about it. A Twitter user questioned Ford’s President and CEO, Jim Farley, why there’s no Bronco EV yet and the boss hinted that there is one already in the works.

Ford’s CEO Said What?!

A user on Twitter questioned the company’s CEO,This is a valid question and a lot of us have been thinking about it, especially after Jeep revealed the electric Wrangler Concept called the Magneto EV.

What’s more surprising is that Jim responded, . Now, this isn’t an official confirmation per se, but it sure hints that an electric Bronco is under development. You can’t expect the company’s head to mislead you by making cryptic statements. But, that said, a Bronco EV could still be many years away.

What’s Next For The Bronco?

Around the time of the 2021 Bronco’s launch, news about the Bronco Hybrid surfaced on the internet with a few pictures of the instrument cluster and the SYNC system. It came across in a video uploaded by a channel called ‘Input’. The two-minute video showed a digital instrument cluster as well as the touchscreen infotainment system that starts displaying various drive modes, features, and other relevant MID data. In one part of it, you could see an ‘EV Coaching’ and a ‘Charge’ display in the instrument cluster, which were dead giveaways that this is from a Bronco Hybrid. The video was soon taken down, but the damage had been done.

Ford didn’t confirm or deny anything at that point, but AutoEvolution published a transcript from Ford’s Annual Shareholders Meeting held in May 2019 where the then CEO, Jim Hackett, said, “We’re adding hybrid electrics to high-volume profitable vehicles like Explorer and the new exciting Bronco.”

According to Motor1, the Bronco Hybrid could feature Ford’s 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine with an electric motor and make around 450 horses combined. Some earlier speculations also revealed over 400 horses. Nothing is concrete for now, so take these speculations with a pinch of salt.

If Jeep Is Making An Electric Off-Roader, So Will Ford

Before the Bronco was launched, all the leaks and information known about it indicated that Ford is using Wrangler as the benchmark and is clearly going after it. The Bronco felt like a true-blue competitor to the Wrangler and Jeep knew it, which prompted it to rain on Ford’s parade by announcing a V-8 Wrangler hours before Ford launched the much-anticipated Bronco.

The automaker even revealed the Wrangler electric concept at this year’s Easter Jeep Safari called the Magneto EV. Considering how Ford shaped the Bronco, it won’t be wrong to say the Bronco EV, whenever it arrives, will be on par with the Magneto EV.

What Can We Expect From The Bronco EV?

Since there is absolutely no information about the Bronco EV at this point, it wouldn’t be wrong to use the Magneto EV as a benchmark. The Magneto EV showcased was a concept, but similar specs from the production version can be expected. This is what the Magneto EV Concept is all about:

-* 285 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque

-* Six-speed manual gearbox

-* 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds

-* Steel bumpers with Warn winch

-* Two-inch lift kit

You can expect the Bronco EV to have specs and features in this ballpark.

Conclusion

Ford has big plans with the Bronco, so it was bound to get confirmed at some point. In fact, Ford even made Bronco its sub-brand last year. For now, the automaker will roll out a ripped, jacked version of the standard Bronco called the Warthog, a hybrid version, and now, an EV too. Everything sounds pretty good, but we’re still mad that a V-8 Bronco is not happening.
