Build your dream Ford GT!

Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show in prototype form, the second-generation Ford GT is about to go on sale for the 2017 model year. The Blue Oval has just made another step toward launching its first supercar in more than a decade by firing up the GT’s online configurator. So, if you already placed a preorder or have the rumored $400,000 required to take one home, you can now browse between a number of options and customize Ford’s latest supercar.

The configurator still is still missing some of the features that will be available with the new GT, but it enables you to browse through the exterior colors, racing stripe packages, wheel options, and upholstery alternatives. What’s more, the online tool reveals that the 2017 Ford GT will receive not one, but two special-edition models. Ford doesn’t provide any details whatsoever, but given that the company is celebrating 100 years since it won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time, we expect at least one of them to have something to do with the iconic race. Most likely it will be a special livery, but we won’t know for sure until Ford spills the beans.

As a brief reminder, the new GT is powered by a 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6 mounted behind the seats. The turbocharged mill is based on a racing engine Ford used in its IMSA Daytona prototype and it is estimated to generate more than 600 horsepower. All that oomph will travel to the rear wheels through a seven-speed, dual-clutch transaxle. Production will be limited to only about 250 units per year according to Ford Performance boss Dave Pericak.

You can configure the Ford GT of your dreams here or you can continue reading to find out more about the options this supercar will carry.

The Ford GT can be had in one of eight available colors. That might not sound like a lot for a modern vehicle, but it’s not uncommon for supercars to be offered with a limited palette of colors. Considering that the LaFerrari was sold in only three colors (not including the expensive bespoke hues), the GT is quite diverse in this department. Unfortunately, half of the supercar’s palette is made from less than stellar shades such as Frozen White, Shadow Black, Ingot Silver, and Liquid Grey, colors which you can get on all sorts for Fords in 2016. The good news is that the GT can also be ordered in the same Liquid Blue as the prototype or the flashy Liquid Red and Triple Yellow. Lastly, customers who want the modern supercar look can have it finished in Matte Black.

Further customization is possible with the stripe package, which adds twin "racing" stripes on the front hood, roof, and engine lid. Color choices include Frozen White, Shadow Black, Ingot Silver, Alloy, Lighting Blue, Race Red, and Competition Orange. Several combinations are possible with results ranging from subtle combos to more striking effects. Combining Liquid Blue with Race Red or Competition Orange will definitely make the GT an attention-grabbing machine at any supercar meeting.

Lastly, buyers have three finish options for the front, rear, side and lower black elements of the car. These can be had in either Shadow Black, Matte Carbon Fiber or Gloss Carbon Fiber.

Ford offers two wheel designs for the GT, starting with the standard 20-inch, one-piece forged-aluminum rims. These can be had in Graphite, Gloss Black or Silver. The latter features chrome lug nuts, while the other two come with black nuts. Customers who want a slightly lighter supercar can opt for the 20-inch carbon-fiber wheels, featuring either a matte or gloss finish. As far as brake calipers go, paint options include black, silver, blue, red, and orange.

Interiors

The GT’s interior is mostly finished in black as standard (it’s called Dark Energy), but Ford offers three more packages that add accent colors on the dashboard and the seats. Arguably the flashier option is Launch Control, which features orange highlights. Customers looking for a more discreet combination can go with Light Speed, which adds a dark shade of blue. Finally, there’s the Re-Entry option with light silver inserts.
