Ford hasn’t launched the High-Performance Package for the 2.3-liter EcoBoost Mustang quite yet, but it launches Fall of 2019, so we’re not too far off. We’ve talked a lot about it, but to our knowledge, nobody had seen it so far. That was until MSN Autos apparently managed to get behind the wheel of one and they say that it gives the base, four-cylinder Chevy Camaro a hardcore beatdown – even worse than it did before. So, how bad does the EcoBoost Mustang Performance Package put a hurting on the Chevy Camaro?

EcoBoost Mustang Performance Package – The Car Chevy Didn’t See Coming

It’s common knowledge that the base EcoBoost Mustang has a 2.3-liter four-cylinder that’s good for 310 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque – admirable numbers for a four-cylinder. We still don’t know how much power the Performance Package will offer for the EcoBoost Mustang but, according to MSN Autos, that baby will hit 60 mph in the mid-four-second range, a spec we never thought we’d see for a four-cylinder Mustang.

If we figure 4.5 seconds specifically, that will make it damn-near one second quicker to 60 mph than the four-cylinder Camaro with the 1LE package and, to really stick it to Ford, the EcoBoost Performance Pack will be the V-6 Camaro to 60 mph by around a half-second based on Motor Trend’s test back in 2017 that pegged the V-6 Camaro at 60 mph in 5.0-seconds flat.

At this point, everyone is guessing that the mid-four-second sprint to 60 is based on the EcoBoost Mustang with the 10-speed automatic. Assuming it will be based on the EcoBoost Premium Fastback, we could see the HPP Mustang cost something in the neighborhood of $36,000. Alternatively, if you can get the same package on the entry-level model, pricing would increase to some $31,000.

At the same time, that raises the question of whether or not the HPP EcoBoost Mustang would be worth the cost considering the fact that you can but the V-8 Mustang GT with an entry-level sticker price of $35,630. And, for the record, it can hit the same 60-mph mark in right around four seconds. So, if it’s based on the Premium EcoBoost model, it might be obsolete in terms of price and performance – unless you want to boast having a fast four-cylinder, that is.
