If you're among those disappointed that Ford didn't offer any green colors for the Mustang in recent years, then I have good news for you. For 2019, you'll be able to order the pony car in Need For Green. A brand-new color for the nameplate, Need For Green is a rich, deep shade of green that reminds me of the golden era of muscle cars. It's not as exotic as the Grabber Green of the early 1970s or as in-your-face as the Gotta Have It Green of the 2010s, but it jumps at you and gives the sixth-generation Mustang a vibrant look. And the name is more than appropriate, as Mustang hasn't offered a green option since 2014. Sure, we had Guard, a dusty grey with a touch of green in 2015 and 2016, but not a high impact color.

The new green color arrives just as spring is coming to replace the harsh winter we had in some parts of the world. It also arrived just in time for St. Patrick's Day celebrations. Needless to say, Ford picked the perfect timing to launch Need For Green. But this is big news, as green hasn't been on the Mustang's palette very often in recent years. While it was never a very popular color on this car, it was offered in different shades for each year since the Mustang's introduction in 1964 until 1980. Be it Pagoda Green, Dark Moss Green, Grabber Green, or Poppy Green; it was there to give customers more options besides the usual -- and very popular -- white, black, and red.

Green disappeared from the list in 1980, and if my research is correct, it didn't return until the early 1990s with hues like Emerald Green and the wild Calypso Green. It was again discontinued between 2004 and 2007 and between 2010 and 2012. Fans of the color got lucky again in 2013 with Gotta Have It Green, a color that harked back to the old muscle car days, but the sixth-gen Mustang was launched without green in the palette. Four model years later and we can finally see Green on a modern Mustang. Was it worth the wait? Definitely! Need for Green is gorgeous and works well with the Mustang's muscular looks. It might not be as iconic as the Dark Highland Green on the Mustang Bullitt, but it's cool, vibrant, and modern at the same time.

No word on pricing yet, but expect Need For Green to come at a premium. It will most likely cost $395 or $495, just like Ruby Red, Royal Crimson, Triple Yellow, and Orange Fury.
