If you can't come to California, we will bring California to you! That seems to be Ford's thinking with its decision of bringing the Mustang California Special to Europe for the first time.

The European Mustang California Special will be offered exclusively in convertible body style with a folding soft-top - a tribute to the 1968 original. On the British market, the new special edition will be priced from £52,105.

The 2022 Mustang California Special is heavily inspired by the original model launched in 1968. This one was offered with a blacked-out grille, fog lights and a side racing stripes that ended ahead of new rear side air scoops, and a Shelby-inspired spoiler.

The model announced for the European market will be distinguished by a honeycomb front grille finished in Ebony Black and with a contrasting GT/CS badge in Race Red. The model will also get side stripes, running from the front to the rear wings, and will be finished in black, red, and grey. They will feature a hidden “California Special” script that is almost invisible in low light conditions, but becoming much more prominent in stronger sunlight.

Ford also worked on improving this special Mustang's aerodynamics and added a larger front splitter}. The rear side air scoops will be offered as an option. The car rides on a new set of wheels, sized 19 x 9-inch up front, and 19 x 9.5-inch at the rear. They will be finished in Carbonised Grey to complement the front splitter, side skirts, and rear diffuser.

For the exterior, Ford is offering a choice of nine exterior colors, including signature Grabber Blue and Cyber Orange. All nine colors will be offered with contrasting black roof.

On the interior, the new California Special will offer leather seats and door inserts part-finished in grey Miko suede with contrasting red stitching. A "GT/CS" logo will be placed on the seats and the floor mats. The instrument panel will be finished in Carbon Hex aluminum and features a unique Mustang California Special badge.

Under the hood, all examples will be offered with a 5.0-liter V-8 Coyote engine that delivers a total of 450 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The customers can choose between either a six-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission. When equipped with the manual transmission, the special Mustang California goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds, while the automatic transmission will bring the sprint time down to 4.5 seconds.
