Ford’s 1966 Le Mans victory over Ferrari is one of the most talked-about moments in the event’s history. To pay homage to one of the prototypes that cemented Ford’s name in the history books, the automaker has come up with the 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition.

What’s Special About The 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition?

Back in 1965-66, Alan Mann racing made use of lighter materials to develop the AM GT-1. There was another car made that was based on the Mk I. Although these cars didn’t bear any fruits, the idea to use lightweight materials was then adapted on the Mk II that ended up winning the Le Mans race in 1966.

Now, the automaker has decided to pay ode to that model. The GT Heritage Edition for 2022 carries on the spirit with a lightweight carbon fiber body and a myriad of other changes inspired by the 1966 red and gold AM GT-1 prototype. The red exterior paint comes with gold stripes, just like the AM GT-1.

In addition to this, Ford has also opted for Frozen White signature accent stripes and a dual over-the-roof racing stripe. No. 16 roundels can be seen on the doors, hood, and underside of the rear wing.

Unlike the original model, the GT Heritage Edition comes with loads of exposed gloss carbon fiber components. Ford has included it on the front splitter, mirrors, side sills, engine louvers, the rear diffuser, and the 20-inch wheels. Speaking of the wheels, they come with black lug nuts. The Brembo brake calipers are lacquered in black with red graphics.

The carbon fiber treatment continues inside the cabin as well. It can be seen on the door sills and the center console. The carbon-fiber seats are wrapped in Ebony Alcantara with gold and red accent stitching. The seating surfaces and head restraints are embossed with the GT logo.

Ford has made changes to the instrument panel as well. It comes wrapped in Ebony leather. The steering wheel is also finished in Ebony Alcantara, but with black stitching. The paddle shifters behind it come with the Alan Mann red finish. The Ebony Alcantara can be seen on the pillars and headliner as well. There are gold appliqués on the instrument console, the door bezels, and seat X-brace. Ford has paired them with contrasting matte carbon fiber on the door sills, lower A-pillars, and the console.

Conclusion

It will be a limited-edition model, but Ford hasn’t mentioned how many GT Alan Mann Heritage Editions it will build. The GT’s production is coming to an end this year, so expect this to be one of the most special edition GT Heritage Editions to grace us. It will be available for approved Ford GT customers and deliveries for the same will begin this quarter.

The 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show, starting February 12, alongside a prototype of the 1966 AM GT-1.
