Remember back when Ford thought it was a good idea to slap the iconic Mach 1 name on an EV SUV? Well, it didn’t go out so well and people only stopped short of rioting in the streets, eventually prompting Ford to back pedal and switch to the name Mach E instead. The name wasn’t much better and is still referred to by some as disgracing what the Mach name stood for, but things have pretty much settled down into acceptance. But, is this really the electric Mustang that we deserved? Well, after seeing this rendering, we’re willing to bet you’ll say we deserved better.

We Want A Real Electric Mustang Not An SUV

With the new Mach-E GT being faster than the Mustang GT of all things, people are starting to ask if the Mustang muscle car is becoming irrelevant. Never mind the fact that it looks like a carbon copy of the Tesla Model Y, but we’ll save that discussion for another time. I’m talking about, of course, the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 EV, which could have been the real electric Mustang, and Ford probably could have gotten away with using the Mach1 name too. Of course, Ford tried to show us the Mach-E can be the same with the Mach-E 1400, but it just didn’t work despite the level of coolness.

All of this said, wouldn’t it be nice if the Mustang name actually lived on as a proper muscle or sports car, albeit with an electric drivetrain? I know, some of us will always feel that the ICE should continue to exist, but times are changing. If we must leave ICEs behind, then so be it – there’s no reason the muscle car can’t evolve too, and that’s where this rendering of a real electric Mustang comes into play.

Created by Richen2432 on Instagram, this electric Mustang goes by the name “Mach GT” and would serve as a proper evolution from gas-powered performance to electric performance. It has all the Mustang cues that we all love mixed in with some creative freedoms that I have to admit do the Mustang some justice. Of course, it’ll still be at least 5 years before we something like this would really be possible, but electric technology is evolving quickly. By the end of the decade, a real Mustang coupe EV such as this could very well exist.

And, if a Mustang EV coupe does exist, it needs to be one of the coolest cars on the market. Ford has a lot of Mustang fanboys that it needs to keep happy, and I’m pretty sure that an EV Mustang that looks like this could do the trick. What do you think? Would this be a worthy Mustang EV or do you think Ford is on the right track with the Mach-E as it is? Let me know in the comments section below.
