Porsche->ke1 has always been conspicuous by its absence in many racing game->ke2888 franchises, but that changes this week in Forza Motorsports 4 with the new Porsche Expansion Pack DLC, which adds 10 of Stuttgart’s best cars to the open-world racer set in southern Europe.

The DLC includes the 2003 Porsche Carrera GT, 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo, 1987 Porsche 959, 1982 Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3, 1970 Porsche 914/6, 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS, 2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (997), 2014 Porsche 911 Turbo S, 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder and 2015 Porsche Macan Turbo, as well as new Porsche-themed bucket-list events, Rivals events and 15 new Xbox Live achievements. Personally, I’m really chomping at the bit to get my hands on that GT3 RS 4.0.

It’s the first we’ve seen of the famed German marque in the Forza->ke3733 franchise since a similar Porsche DLC pack was added to Forza Horizon 2, and the first time Porsche has been featured in a Forza game on Xbox One.->ke4786 It also makes Forza Motorsports 4 one of the few games in which you can drive the current trifecta of hybrid hypercars:->ke177 the 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1.

Why it matters

So, why don’t we see Porsche in more racing games? Video game giant Electronic Arts and Porsche have an exclusive partnership, meaning the company’s cars only appear in EA titles like Real Racing->ke3700 and Forza Motorsport 6. The details of the arrangement are a bit murky, but Microsoft->ke2846 and Turn 10 Studios seem to have some sort of back-room deal that allows them to occasionally license models from Porsche and EA.

Forza aside, the exclusive arrangement with EA seems like a raw deal for Porsche. Other car companies realized long ago that video games are a fantastic way to foster life-long allegiances in the malleable minds young gamers. By limiting itself to one publisher (one that has a less-than-stellar record when it comes to quality driving games), Porsche seems to be missing out on a sizable audience. But, the deal has been in place for years, and, for whatever reason, Porsche seems content to let it stay that way.

Does the licensing arrangement with Turn 10 and Microsoft mean we will see Porsche in future Forza games? Too soon to say, but we should find out in a matter of days when Read our full review of Forza Horizon 2 here. gets revealed at E3 2015.
