Fashion label L'Art De L’Automobile along with Porsche has created a one-off roadster based on the 968. This neo-retro prototype, which is a re-bodied Porsche 968 is wrapped in a chic and urban style.

Overview

L'Art De L'Automobile is a prestigious car sales company based in Paris. The company’s founder Arthur Kar, has realized a lifelong dream by collaborating with Porsche. He also created a clothing line, based on the theme of the automobile. At the age of 16, he began working at a Porsche center in France, where he quickly developed a passion for these iconic German sports cars.

With the goal of one day owning his own Porsche, Kar steadily worked his way up the ranks, refurbishing cars and shipping them to customers around the world. Subsequently, his interest in streetwear and the success of the logo he created for his business led him to create a successful ready-to-wear brand. Eventually, his attachment to the Porsche 968 led to the creation of the 968 L’ART.

Exterior Design

The car was conceived over a duration of 18 months at a workshop in Paris. During that time, the 968 lost its roof and was hence transformed into a roadster. The exterior design for this show car was inspired by other front-engined Porsche’s of the ‘90s, all combed with modern touches.

The profile features styling elements that you’ll be familiar with from other Speedster models from the Zuffenhausen based sports carmaker. For instance, the low windshield, the extremely narrow rearview mirrors, and the hump design behind the two seats, which slopes gently towards the rear, are all design elements found on some of Porsche’s most iconic roadsters from the past.

The stern integrates a large light strip displaying the lettering "Kar" on the right side. As for the front lights, they have been erased in favor of thin LED strips placed lower down in the bumper. The "Cup" style rims proposed at the time on the 968 have simply been repainted in black. This fully functional two-seater sports car has been painted in a rather stunning shade of green, which also inadvertently characterizes the current fashion collection from L'Art De L’Automobile.

The Custom Interior

The 968 L'ART project, is supported by Porsche themselves and has integrated custom accessories provided by the manufacturer's historical partners such as TAG Heuer, Recaro, and Bose. The two Recaro bucket seats are from Recaro and feature animal skins from Ecco Leather. Tag Heuer provides a stopwatch that sits centrally in the dashboard. And Bose contributes the sound system, whose speakers feature "an innovative placement" and present a special slat design. There's also a fragrance dispenser created in collaboration with cosmetics brand Byredo.

Performance

Porsche hasn’t disclosed any technical details about its new Artcar. However, it can be assumed that the basic car will share its underpinnings with the standard 968. Here, the naturally aspirated long-stroke 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine produces 240 hp and delivers 225 pound-feet of torque.

Conclusion

This 968 Artcar presents a completely new design on the outside. It was displayed in the Marais district of Paris, during the Paris Fashion Week that took place between September 30 and October 3, 2021, where the greatest international fashion designers are known to jostle for attention.
