Say goodbye to the "L" badge that we've become accustomed to with every Lexus vehicle, at least when viewing their cars from the back. That's because the Japanese luxury automaker has thought that spelling out the Lexus name at the rear of its vehicles is a sign that "change is coming".

Change Is Coming

This is the statement that Brian Bolain, Lexus’ global head of marketing, recently told MotorTrend during the Design Miami Fair. This design detail has first been implemented in the new Lexus NX, which was then carried over to the new LX full-size SUV. Bolain also says that every new Lexus moving forward will feature this design detail.

As for the changes that he mentioned, Lexus is currently implementing a new infotainment system across its model lineup, along with highlighting a new vehicle strategy in order to better serve its customers globally.

Sayonara Lexus Remote Touch

That new infotainment system he is pertaining to is called Lexus Interface. We've never been fans of the outgoing Lexus Remote Touch's touchpad-based interface, which was clunky at best and poorly calibrated at worst.

The new touchscreen infotainment system, which debuted in the new NX and is also now in the new LX, features Google Maps, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported by this new infotainment system.

The screen size will vary from 8.0- to 14.0-inches, depending on the model, but in the case of the LX, it comes with a secondary touch screen as a way to simultaneously view off-road information alongside your multimedia wants or other preferences.

Lexus and Toyota are so proud of their new infotainment system, the company won't be waiting for a completely new model to arrive in order to implement this new feature, according to Bolain. As a matter of fact, expect to see the new touch screen in an upcoming mid-cycle facelift of its vehicles.

Region-Specific Lexus Models Coming Soon

Lastly, MotorTrend also reports that Lexus will implement a new product strategy by introducing region-specific models.

Lexus global model portfolio is almost the same across every market around the world. By offering region-specific nameplates and models, Lexus will be in a better position to grow it sales in various markets. For now, the only region-specific model that Lexus has is the LM luxury minivan, which is popular in Asian countries such as China, the Philippines, Thailand, and Malaysia.

These plans are on top of Lexus' electrification plans, which will see the brand become fully electric by 2030.
