Genesis, Hyundai's luxury brand, now offers three sedans, with sizes ranging from compact to full-size. The Korean brand is adopting a similar strategy to its SUV lineup, which will include two more models in addition to the GV80 midsize. Next on the list is the GV70, and Genesis just unveiled a camouflaged version in its home country. Slotted below the GV80, the GV70 will compete in the premium compact market against crossovers like the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC.

Not surprisingly, the GV70 is pretty much a downsized version of the GV80. It combines styling cues from both the GV80 and the G70 sedan, which was recently updated for the 2021 model year. The front fascia is generic but spectacular at the same time thanks to the massive grille that's flanked by thin headlamps with twin blades.

The profile is very similar to the GV80. The GV70 features the same tall beltline and clean body panels, as well as a thick C-pillar between the rear door window and the angled quarter window. Like most compact crossovers out there, it features a sloping roofline for a coupe-style look. The fine details are still obscured by the G-matrix camouflage, but there shouldn't be any surprised when Genesis removes the wrap.

The Genesis GV70 will feature both gasoline and diesel power

There's no word on what will motivate the GV70, but chances are it will share drivetrains with the GV80. The midsize SUV features a selection of two gasoline engines, starting with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder rated at 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque. This mill will probably power the range-topping version of the GV70. The GV80 is also available with a 3.5-liter V-6 good for 375 horses and 391 pound-feet of twist, but don't expect to find this mill on the GV70's options list. On the other hand, look for the 3.0-liter inline-six diesel, rated at 274 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.

The GV70 should also borrow the 2.0-liter Theta II from the G70 sedan. This engine churns 249 horses and 260 pound-feet, just enough for the entry-level model. Some markets could also get the 2.2-liter diesel with 199 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of twist.
