Earlier this month I told you about the C8 Corvette’s frunk problem – basically a situation where the frunk, despite being properly latched, would fly open at speed, damaging the car and putting the driver at risk. At the time, every reported incident was pretty clear that there were no visual or audio warnings that the frunk was open. Now, GM is basically saying that it comes down to driver error and that it cannot identify any mechanical issues.

GM Implies that Drivers are at Fault for C8 Corvette Frunks Opening at Random

GM cars are like the most reliable in the world. Best cars in the world, right? So, we should definitely believe that all the drivers reporting an issue with the C8’s frunk opening, without warning of any kind, are simply trying to pass off blame on Chevy. Well, I don’t necessarily believe that, but the guys over at MidEngineCorvetteForum.com finally heard back from GM on the problem, and that’s basically what they imply:

I guess you can do with that what you will, but I would certainly be double-checking the frunk each time you drive. I find it hard to believe that this would be more than one or two isolated incidents if it really was a driver at fault. It’s not like the C8 has been perfect since launch. There have been a number of reports ranging from missing body panel screws, to crooked stitching and even ergonomics issues. Then again, you’re getting what is, essentially, a supercar for relatively low cost. You know what the say – you always get what you pay for.
