The Need for Speed->ke3700 movie may not have been the best auto-themed film we’ve ever seen - ok, it was pretty horrible - but at least it had a litter of some of fastest and most powerful cars in the world. One such car is this yellow GTA Spano, which is actually one of the only original vehicles that were used in the filming of the movie.->ke3897 Yes, the cars that you saw participate in the final race sequences and all those car crashes were prop versions of the actual supercars.->ke177 In a way, that fact makes this particular GTA Spano->ke3437 that much more appealing to collectors and to their good fortune, this GTA Spano is now up for sale!

Super Garage Marbella, one of Spania GTA’s authorized dealers, is in possession of the car and is asking for a tidy sum of €1.5 million for it. That’s about $1.63 million based on current exchange rates. Whether it’s worth spending that much money on a GTA Spano is a question best asked at another time. What’s important is that whoever decides to buy it will take ownership of a car that not only participated in the movie, but was also used in a number of premieres, including the red carpet premier in Hollywood.

More importantly, the would-be buyer will be purchasing a car that packs an enormous 8.0-liter twin-turbo V-10 engine that produces an incredible 925 horsepower and 900 pound-feet of torque. Those numbers help the Spano sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds to go with a top speed of 230 mph, making it one of the fastest production cars in the world.

It may not have the prestige of a Bugatti Veyron->ke1112 or the technological wizardry of a Koenigsegg Agera R. But, with its combination of power, performance, and Hollywood pedigree, this yellow GTA Spano could end up being one of the most sought-after movie supercars in the world. Maybe that $1.63 million price tag isn’t that bad after all.

Why it matters

Personally, I wouldn’t spend $1.63 million on a GTA Spano, even if it comes with the added distinction of appearing in the Need for Speed movie. But, just because I’m not ready to bite the bullet, that doesn’t mean there isn’t somebody out there that’s willing to fork over the cash to add the Spano to his car collection. I’m pretty sure somebody’s going to take a good long look at this Spano and then proceed to take out his check book to write a check to buy it.

The point isn’t really to own a GTA Spano, but to own one that has a cinematic history attached to it. Granted, Need for Speed isn’t going to age as well as Bullitt or Gone in 60 Seconds or any of the films from the Fast & Furious franchise. But, nobody can take away the fact that this Spano played a prominent role in a movie that featured a lot of high-priced exotics, even if some of them were of the propped variety.

I don’t know if this Spano is going to sell quickly or if it’s going to sit in Super Garage Marabella’s dealership for a while. What I do know is that it deserves a home, and a good one at that. So, whoever ends up buying the Spano should take really good care of it. Even if it doesn’t appreciate in value in the years to come, you at least have the distinction of owning one of the most prominent cars to play a role in the Need for Speed movie.
