• Hannah Barbera’s Wacky Racers come to life

The Mean Machine Dick Dastardley roams the streets of England
  • The parade of Wacky race cars

Anybody who’s ever gone through childhood must have, at one point, been transfixed to the Hanna Barbera’s classic cartoons, Wacky Races. The unforgettable ensemble of characters – including Peter Perfect, Dick Dastardley & Mutley, and Penelope Pitstop – have all left us wishing to become race car drivers driving our very own wacky race car.

If you’re going to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, then your wishes are about to come true. Almost, that is.

A full set of 11 real-life Wacky race cars will be displayed at the aforementioned car festival providing fans of the cartoon from all shapes and sizes the opportunity to see their favorite wacky race cars up close and personal.

Continued after the jump

These cars had never before been driven around town – and no one even knew they existed – until they made a surprise appearance in the streets of Chichester in West Sussex, England before making its way to the festival, where it will be displayed in a specially built desert set exclusively made for the cars.

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will be open from July 3 up to July 5, and while nobody will be allowed to get behind the wheel of these fantasy cars, everyone is welcome to take pictures and marvel at the very same cars we all wished we could have when we were young kids.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read More

It looks so strange and wacky. I love the pointed bumper of this car and the color. I wonder if this would accelerate to a great speed.

I can’t believe the Wacky Race car is real. I hope that it doesn’t focus on the design of the car and have an amazing speed of a real racing car.

It looks like an eggplant! hahahaha it is really a strange car. I wonder if what’s in the mind of the automaker of this car. smiley However, I must say that I’m also impressed with the uniqueness and artistic platform of it.

This is very funny and unreal. I never thought even in my wildest dream that this car is true. It does not look like a car at all. It looks like, what do you call that thing which makes holes in the land?

Are you kidding? Wacky Racers is real! I would love to try this one. And meet the entire casts of the show (I just loved watching HB cartoons when I was young!).

Hotness. I love the way this gen Z4 looks and really wish it had a proper stationary roof coupe version. A definite favorite.

I remember that car and that cartoon too. This one on the picture is from the antagonist of the whole cartoon.

You know it would have been more interesting if this cars were as function as they were in the cartoons. I would have loved to see it then on a race track. If it were possible and if it every does happen, I hope that they also do it with Speed Racer.
