Just listen to it sing the song of its people while it hits 150 mph

We knew the Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye was a beast, we just didn’t get the chance of seeing it devour the half-mile. But since we’re now given that opportunity, we’ll hit replay on this video all day long. And we strongly advise that you do the same.

This Hellcat has a (Red)eye for speed

Did you think the Challenger Hellcat was bonkers? Then you’ll love the Hellcat Redeye, which is essentially a possessed Hellcat that packs 797 horsepower instead of 707 (or 717, for newer Hellcats) and 707 pound-feet of torque routed to the rear axle through and eight-speed automatic transmission.

What’s more, Dodge’s literature says the Redeye will cover the quarter mile in 10.8 seconds provided you know what you’re doing with the throttle and the rear tires don’t vaporize in the process. 0-60 mph takes just 3.4 seconds and top speed is rated at 203 mph.

That’s not bad for a car that tips the scales at 4,443 pounds. And just don’t ask about fuel efficiency. There’s not point in that.

But enough with the PR talk. Let’s see what the Challenger Hellcat Redeye can pull off in real life, shall we? For that, we’ll be using a video posted on YouTube by the Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, which shows the 2019 Challenger Redeye shoot for its top speed on a half-mile run.

Yes, the Redeye is quick off the line and blistering fast as it chugs on yard after yard. But there’s something else that creeps into your senses and that’s the mighty sound coming from that supercharged 6.2-liter V-8.

And while it might not have unleashed its full top speed potential - we reckon at least a full mile was needed for that, the Redeye was clocked at 150.7 mph (242.6 kph). Head below to watch the run.

At that time, he was too young to know how they worked and way too young to drive them, but he could see one thing – each of them had a different ethos and their own unique personality. As time went on, he started seeing that in other cars as well, and his love for the automobile was born.  Read More
