With testing from Car & Driver and Motor Trend,, we know for a fact that the BMW-sourced B58 inline-six that powers the 2020 Toyota Supra is even more powerful than advertised. But how powerful can it get? Is it tunable to 600 horsepower? Maybe 700 or 800 horsepower? What about 1,000 horsepower? Well, that four-digit figure is exactly what Papadakis Racing is trying to accomplish. That figure isn’t that unheard of for the Supra. Maybe not the 2020 A90-gen Supra, but the third-gen Supra was tuned to the moon and back, and four-digit horsepower numbers were – in a sense – relatively easy to attain if you know your stuff. The real question is whether or not the BMW B58 inline-six can handle a similar power output and, if so, how much of the engine has to be changed? Luckily, we have an entertaining video that shows the entire build process of an alleged 1,000-horsepower B58 build, right from the block on up.

2020 Toyota Supra 1,000 Horsepower Build

After seeing the various 2JZ-powered A90 Supras floating around the internet, seeing a tuner that’s willing to put some serious work into a BMW B58 from the Supra is a sight for sore eyes. In this video, we get to see Papadakis Racing build that BMW beauty from the ground up in hopes of attaining 1,000 horsepower – or more! – in the process. The pistons, connecting rods, and cylinder sleeves have all been replaced, though, so the weak links have all been tended to. Those gold-colored pistons bear the JE logo and are custom forged specifically for this build. The rods that mate them to the crankshaft come courtesy of Chromoly Carrillo.

From the block upward, there is plenty of custom work in play. The stock cylinder head has been worked over more than a Las Vegas hooker, being ported, polished, and fitted with new valves, springs, and retainers as well. Further up the engine, you’ll find a 3D-printed aluminum intake manifold and a bright, pull-me-over red valve cover. So, what’s the point of all these hopped-up mechanicals? Well, this engine will be the recipient of a massive Borg Warner turbocharger and, undoubtedly, and advanced fuel system that will dumb incredible amounts of fuel into the engine.

Will this baby actually produce 1,000 horsepower? Well, that we can’t say for sure. We’ll just have to wait until Papadakis Racing drops it back into the Supra it came out of and slaps that puppy on a dyno.
