If you’ve already spent countless hours honing your skills in Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport and you feel that the competition is getting stale, now’s your chance to finally compete against the elite of the elite in your field. Mind you, this isn’t your typical racing game competition that awards winners with cash prizes and trips to God-knows-where. This is the real deal because this competition is hosted by no less than McLaren and the prize at stake is, quite literally, a real job with the company’s Formula One team.

The competition is called the “World’s Fastest Gamer” and the objective of it is pretty self-explanatory. If you feel that you’re up to task of being the best in simulation driving across multiple racing platforms, then feel free to join the contest. Should you end up winning the whole thing, you stand to receive a one-year contract with McLaren to be a simulator driver for its Formula One team. On top of that, you’ll get to work alongside McLaren engineers, who are regarded as some of the best in the business, at the team’s official technology center in the U.K. You’ll also get to join the team travel to all the Grand Prix races on the F1 calendar. There you’ll help develop and improve the F1 race cars of Stoffel Vandoorne and Fernando Alonso, should the latter return to the team. All you need to do to land the gig is to be the fastest gamer in the world. Think you’re up to it?

Do you think you're up for it?

I’m not going to pretend to be the “world’s fastest gamer” because I’m not even the fastest gamer in my family. That title belongs to my brother, who routinely kills me in Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport. My few victories should be celebrated with ticker-tape parades.

All told, six international finalists will be chosen by gaming and Formula One experts to participate in the 10-person field. The remaining four finalists will be chosen at later dates following a series of online qualifying events that are scheduled to take place this summer. Once the field of 10 is complete, the finalists will converge at the McLaren Technology Center in Woking, England where they will be subjected to one of the most strenuous and scrutinized job interviews in the world, including the opportunity to race against each other under the watchful eye of some of the best minds in the business. Of the 10 finalists, only one will be declared the winner and that one person will be offered a true job of a lifetime for a team that has succeeded in the highest levels of motorsports racing in the past.

If the competition isn’t big enough already with McLaren at the helm, contest’s co-sponsors include the likes of Logitech G, Sparco, and sport media platform GiveMeSport. So there you have it. Do you think you have what it takes to be McLaren’s next simulator driver? If you think you’re up to it, now’s as good a time as any to go back and sharpen those skills. Who knows, you might end up getting invited by McLaren or at the very least, you could end up winning the qualifying events and be named one of the 10 finalists.

However you get it, as long as you make the final 10, it's an accomplishment in it of itself. What happens from there could get you the keys to the McLaren kingdom and be the company’s simulator driver.
