We finally get to see what the new 2022 Honda Civic sedan will look like as Honda was kind enough to publish a picture of the road-going model, an evolution of the Civic Prototype unveiled in November 2020.

Upon closer inspection, the Civic shown in the picture looks like a toned-down version of the Civic Prototype we mentioned earlier. The color scheme is also milder, and as far as we can tell, wheel size was also taken down a notch.

We still don’t know what the interior will look like for the 11th generation Honda Civic. However, last year’s concept featured 9-inch touchscreen (the current one is a 7-inch unit), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a digital instrument cluster.

The new Civic will sit on an evolution of its predecessor’s platform. As Car and Driver points out, this means that the 2022 Civic won’t receive a control-arm front suspension à la Acura TLX and MDX, and will instead retain the dual-axis strut front suspension from the Type R. The main benefit of this configuration is the removal of torque steer as the steering and suspension functions are mechanically separated.

We also know that at launch, Honda won’t offer an all-wheel-drive 2022 Civic, and we can’t tell you for sure if there are such plans further down the line. Instead, the Japanese carmaker will place more emphasis on safety with the addition of more airbags and extra safety features – of the passive and active ilk – under the Honda Sensing umbrella.

That said, we expect more information to become available on April 28. That’s when Honda says it will release more photos, videos, and specs that relate to what it calls “the most fun to drive and technologically advanced sedan in the model’s nearly 50-year history.”
