Things have a habit of being more expensive in the land down under, but I have to admit that I about fell out of my chair when I learned what Australians have to pay to set foot in a BMW M8 Competition. In local currency, we’re talking about $350,000 for the Grand Coupe and $352,900. I know, I know – the exchange rate, right? Well, it’s still downright expensive. Those figures translate to $235,130 and $237,078, respectively.
The BMW M8 Competition Isn’t a Quarter-Million Dollar Car!
While Australians will have to pay $235,000+ for a BMW M8 Competition, on this side of the pond, we have to pony up just $146,000 fort he Coupe and $146,000 for the Gran Coupe. That’s a difference of more than $90,000 for what is, basically, the same exact car. Or is it?

There are a lot of cars that are significantly more expensive in Australia, but the BMW M8 seems to rank right up there with some of the highest. There are a few bits and pieces to help make up for the extra price, though, including extended leather upholstery, electric sun blinds, and Alcantara accents. BMW is also including the M Carbon package as standard equipment to go with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system.
All of these, usually optional extras don’t really come all that close to the $90,000 mark, but at least there’s some extra equipment in there for the price. It really does raise the question if having the extra power afforded by the M8 Competition is worth that much to you. You could just as easily buy the BMW M850i and probably save your marriage while you’re at it.
