HOLY SH*T! The Tesla Model X Plaid Recorded A Sub-10-Second Quarter-Mile Time

We’ve never seen a production SUV do a sub-10-second quarter-mile before!

Brooks from ‘DragTimes’ has raced his Tesla Model S Plaid against a lot of supercars in the last eight months. This time, he got behind the wheel of another performance Tesla – the Model X Plaid. It doesn’t take a genius to tell that this is going to be insanely fast as well, but sometimes seeing the actual numbers can surprise you. This Tesla Model X Plaid clocked a sub-10-second quarter-mile time and a 0-60 mph time quicker than what Tesla claims, which is mighty impressive for a three-row SUV that weighs over 5,000 pounds!

Presenting, The World’s Most Power And Quickest Production SUV

The Tesla Model X Plaid has the same setup as the Model S Plaid. You get three electric motors that churn out 1,020 horsepower, combined. The owner of the Tesla Model X informed us that he’s run 9.83 and 9.82 seconds on the street. So, it was expected to run quicker at the drag strip... and it did. In the first run, the Model X Plaid completed the quarter-mile run in 9.754 seconds at 144.88 mph!

They did some Dragy runs as well, and here are the numbers from the first run:

  • 0-60 mph in 2.63 seconds
  • 1/8 mile in 6.43 seconds at 115.82 mph
  • 60-130 mph in 5.26 seconds
  • 100-150 mph in 5.35 seconds
  • 1/4 mile in 9.80 seconds at 145.99 mph

They ran the VBox tests as well and that recorded a 0-60 mph time of 2.36 seconds! This makes it quicker than the 2.5 seconds that Tesla has claimed.

For the second run, the drag strip didn’t record the timing. In fact, the team went for another run after this, but that didn’t record the time either. However, here’s what the Dragy recorded for the second race, this time, with some more details:

  • 0-60 mph in 2.61 seconds
  • 60-130 mph in 5.26 seconds
  • 0-130 mph in 7.87 seconds
  • 100-150 mph in 5.33 seconds
  • 60 feet in 1.67 seconds
  • 1/8 mile in 6.41 at 116.06 mph
  • 1000 feet in 8.24 seconds at 133.71 mph
  • 1/4 mile in 9.78 seconds at 146.02 mph
  • 1/2 mile in 16.4 seconds at 111.70 mph (slowed down after the quarter-mile, but the Dragy recorded it)

The V-Box showed a time of 9.78 seconds for the quarter-mile run.

These times are mighty impressive even for a two-door supercar; let alone the fact that this is actually a three-row family SUV that weighs over 5,400 pounds

The advent of EVs has led to such things, and expect them to keep happening in the foreseeable future. Just like the Model S Plaid, do you think the Model X Plaid should also pick up fights with internal combustion-engined supercars and sports cars?
