• Honda to add Google Earth Navigation

Honda has introduced a new feature for its InterNavi Premium Club service in Japan that incorporates the popular Google Earth satellite mapping technology as part of its own Floating Car Data system.

Honda’s Floating Car Data system, a highly advanced navigation setup, made its debut in September 2003 on Japan-market Hondas. The system transmits data from an equipped vehicle in real-time to an operations center and returns updates about traffic jams, road accidents and other navigational information to the driver.

The advanced navigation system was first launched in 2003, offering a wireless connection to the internet to download the latest traffic information to the built-in computer. The technology is now being expanded to interface to Google Earth, which provides high-resolution satellite images of cities.
