They say life comes as a full circle; and it did for Elon Musk and his glass shattering saga. Elon Musk’s mother, Maye Musk, tweeted a picture from her son's younger days where he’s seen replacing a window in his old BMW.

This tweet caught a lot of attention and people couldn’t stop asking him questions about it. Now that we know Elon has experience in fixing broken glasses, I guess we can expect him to fix the Cybertruck’s “supposedly armored glass” with ease. Funny how things turn out, right?

Musk Used To Be A Petrolhead!

When asked about the car in question, Musk said that it’s a 1978 BMW 320i he bought in 1993 for $1,400. He said thieves broke the window to steal a $20 radio. So to fix the problem, Musk went to a junkyard and got a replacement. He even said there are great deals available in junkyards.

Now, this statement, especially coming from a billionaire, is quite funny. Not just this; Musk also plonked a five-speed transmission in his Bimmer when the original four-speed automatic gearbox failed. This, too, he picked up from a junkyard in Philly. He further added " I couldn't afford to pay for repairs, so I fixed almost everything on that car from parts in the junkyard. Ironically, that’s me replacing broken side window glass. The circle is complete lol.”

It hurts to know that he hasn’t always been a real-life Tony Stark; this dude used to be broke, too. Damn!

I’m Jealous of His Car Collection

His mom used the same reference when she uploaded this pic. Her tweet reads “@elonmusk #1995 And people said you knew nothing about cars #FoundThisPhoto.” A BMW 320i sounds fancy, but Musk has always been a car guy. He even owned a BMW M5 tuned by Hamann at some point. His love for German cars is quite evident as he has also owned an Audi Q7 and a Porsche 911. His British car collection includes a 1967 Jaguar E-Type, the Lotus Esprit, as well as a McLaren F1. Fun fact: Musk smashed his McLaren F1 while showing it off to Peter Thiel, PayPal’s co-founder. Interestingly, the car wasn’t insured. Did he get it fixed at the junkyard, too? Who knows?

Did you ever imagine that a guy visiting junkyards to pick up stuff for his car would one day shatter the windows of his own creation in front of the world with metal balls? Yeah, that’s the kind of rich I want to be too. What’s your favorite incident from Musk’s automotive-world shenanigans? Share them with us in the comments section below.
