Hot Wheels’ 50th-anniversary celebration continues with another special edition product in tow. This time, the Mattel-owned scale model car maker is partnering with Italian race car parts manufacturer Momo to produce a limited run steering wheel based on Momo’s Prototipo wheel product. The item is officially called the Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Steering Wheel. Orders can now be placed at hotwheels.momo.com for $399.95. Order fulfillments are scheduled to start in early 2019 with only limited quantities available.

It’s a partnership that you never expected, but when you think about it, the Hot Wheels-Momo collaboration really is a match made in heaven. One is a toy line that has thrived in the business for half a century while another is one of the most well-respected race car parts manufacturers, one that has been around for 54 years. In some ways, Hot Wheels and Momo are kindred spirits, making this partnership something of a special treat for both companies.

Granted, the Hot Wheels 50th Anniversary Limited Edition Steering Wheel isn’t as fun as the re-issued Hot Wheels Tesla Roadster that was announced last week, but this limited edition Momo steering wheel has its own fan base of collectors who are likely going to scrap for a chance to buy one.

Right in the middle of the steering wheel is the official Hot Wheels logo, laser-etched onto the spokes of the steering wheel. The steering wheel’s small round horn features the toymaker’s official 50th-anniversary logo, and a commemorative box ties up the whole product in a nice bow.

“With MOMO recently celebrating its 50th Anniversary we fully understand the importance of such a milestone,” said Henrique Cisneros, chairman of MW Company. “We’re incredibly proud to help such an iconic brand as Hot Wheels commemorate not only 50 years of history but 50 years of inspiring fans of all ages.”

The limited edition steering wheel is a sweet offering, but given its limited availability, it’s not a guarantee that you’re going to get one. You can buy the aforementioned 1:64 scale Tesla Roadster that was announced last week to celebrate the Roadster’s launch into space. If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, Hot Wheels and Puma have also linked up to create the RS-X Silhouette, a custom sneaker inspired by the toy line’s anniversary. And if you really want to shoot for the stars, you can ask Chevrolet if it still has the Camaro Hot Wheels Edition that it launched in July. Only 1,990 packages were released then, but if you’re lucky, you can still get one for a little over $56,000.

From the looks of it, Hot Wheels may not be done with these cross-branding partnerships. There are still two months left before 2018 comes to a close. Who’s willing to bet that we see another collaboration before the year ends?
