Carwow is back with another drag racing video, and this time, they had a pretty interesting mix. The contenders for this race were a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Skyline, and a BMW M3. The BMW M3 was in the Competition spec and completely stock. However, the Japanese and the American weren’t. The Nissan made 750 horses whereas the Ford put out 735 ponies. The M3, on the other hand, makes a little over 500 horsepower. Which car do you think will claim the bragging rights this time?

The M3 Competition Is Neither The Lightest Nor The Most Powerful

The mill is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that powers all four wheels.

The Ford Mustang comes with a 5.0-liter, V-8 engine under the hood. While it is naturally aspirated as standard, this particular example comes with a supercharger. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

Here, power is channeled to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

The Mustang is the heaviest of the lot, weighing in at 3,913 pounds. The BMW M3 is 99 pounds lighter, standing at 3,814 pounds. The Nissan Skyline, despite the all-wheel-drive system, is the lightest. It weighs 3,439 pounds, almost 500 pounds lighter than the Mustang!

The German Defeated Its Tuned Counterparts

First up was the drag race and they had four rounds of those. The BMW’s Launch Control system wasn’t ready in the first one, and in the other two, the Skyline had some gearshift and boost-loss issues. The fourth race worked fine for all the cars. The Mustang’s derriere was all over the place which caused it to came third. The muscle car doesn’t have launch control, but it was wrapped in drag radials. Didn’t help the cause, though.

The BMW M3 and the Nissan Skyline were neck-to-neck till the very end, but the BMW beat it by the nose. They both recorded a quarter-mile time of 11.4 seconds, whereas the Mustang came in a little slow at 12.2 seconds.

The Rolling Races Belonged To The Mustang And The Skyline

Next up was the rolling race in the comfort setting from 50 mph. The Mustang had the best kickdown, thanks to the supercharger. The BMW was next, but the Nissan just couldn’t keep up with the two. The result was the same at the half-mile and the mile mark.

The next rolling race was in sport settings, with the German and the American also manually shifting their gears. These two were locked in third gear, while the GT-R started in second due to its long gearing. The Skyline felt at home here and managed to pip past both its rivals. It kept the lead even at the half- and the one-mile mark to finally get itself a win.

As for the brake test from 70 mph, the Skyline GT-R took the shortest distance to come to a halt, followed by the BMW and the Mustang.
