HRE has been re-engineering the wheel for about four decades, a period that allowed the American wheel maker to specialize and elevate its products. Recently, HRE unveiled new versions of its Vintage, Classic, and 540 Series wheels which it mounted on modern supercars. The result is exquisite to say the least.

If you are anything like the undersigned, you might have experimented the modern car, vintage wheels combo in Forza Motorsport Horizon. Or if you are skilled in Photoshop – unlike the undersigned – you can have all the fun you want there. Thankfully, HRE can do it for you in real life.

It’s possible via HRE’s very own FMR wheels (FMR is short for Forged Monoblok Rim, by the way), which might look like wheels from the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, but they’re in fact mountable on modern supercars such as the Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari 488 Pista, or the new Porsche 911 (992) GT3.

HRE says the new wheels are available in sizes ranging from 20 to 22 inches and they all “meld the structural benefits of a forged Monoblok wheel with the aesthetic of a two-piece wheel.” In other words, the FMR barrel has extra stiffness, less mass, and higher concentricity. Plus, it eliminates the air seal required for a traditional three-piece wheel.

We are also told the wheels are not limited to just the Aventador and 911 GT3 as they will be available to a wider range of vehicles. In the meantime, I will be in FH4, adding vintage wheels to my Bugatti Chiron.
