The electric pickup truck market is booming. You’ve got the GMC Hummer EV, the Tesla Cybertruck, the Rivian R1T, and many other new players. Even the pioneers of the current generation like Ford and Chevy have thrown in their hats and showcased what the truck will look like. But, one big name that’s missing is Ram. The company officially announced the electric Ram 1500 sometime mid-last year. Fast forward to the present day, we have got another set of teasers. Yeah, just teasers; not a glimpse at the real deal.

But, all that is forgiven at the moment because we are in awe of how stunning the Ram 1500 EV could turn out to be. What we see are still sketches, but if Ram can translate it into the production version without a whole lot of changes, it might be the best-looking truck on the market when it comes out.

There’s Not Much Known About It At This Point

Ram has noted that the production of the 1500 EV will commence in 2024. This means we will be seeing the prototype sometime next year. Ram has been quite tight-lipped about the truck. Forget about the specs; we don’t even know what it will be called. The sketches that we see here show some angles of the upcoming truck. The front fascia has two DRL strips running the width and ending at the illuminated Ram logo in the middle. At the rear, you’ve got a similar setup. A single strip that starts off as two vertical lights on either side and converges in the middle into the illuminated Ram badge.

The overall silhouette looks pretty sharp and bold as well. The flared wheel arches add to the sporty cred of the truck, possibly pointing at large wheels and tires as well. These are just sketches for now, so we’ll not dive too deep into the speculation. But, the company sure has big plans with it, as it should. Last year, Carl Lally, Ram’s Brand Marketing Senior Manager, spoke to electruck and said,

While we get the durability aspect, the capability bit is debatable. With EVs, if you tow at full capacity, it’s going to take a massive hit on the range. Automakers have been trying to strike a perfect balance, but it’s far from what a heavy user would be comfortable with. This kind of also means that the 1500 EV – or whatever it will be called when it comes out – won’t be another high-performance truck that will take you to 60 mph from a standstill in under four seconds. Honestly, that’s a good point to start. For all we know, Ram BEV might be the true-blue workhorse that the market lacks at this point.

Now part of Stellantis, the Ram pickup truck will be based on one of the four STLA platforms that the auto giant plans to use across all 14 brands under its umbrella. This will definitely help keep the developmental costs low, thus giving the space for it to pass on the benefits to the customers. Here’s how the four BEV-centric platforms are segregated:

- STLA Small: Range up to 300 miles. Battery capacity between 37 and 82 kWh. To be used for small urban commuters

- STLA Medium: Range up to 440 miles. Battery capacity between 87 and 104 kWh. To be used on premium vehicles

- STLA Large: Range up to 500 miles. Battery capacity between 101 and 118 kWh. To be used for all-wheel-drive configurations and American muscle cars

- STLA Frame: Range up to 500 miles. Battery capacity between 159 and 200 kWh. To be used for capability and practicality.

In all likelihood, the Ram electric truck (how does “electruck” sound?) will be based on the STLA Frame that will have a range of up to 500 miles.

Here’s what else we know about the Ram 1500 EV thus far:

- Drive Modes

- Fast Charging up to 150 kW

- Dynamic Range Mapping

- Charge Station Locator

- EV Dynamic Trip Energy Prediction

- Smart Charging/Vehicle Preconditioning

- Smartphone Controls

The Ram 1500 EV will go into production in 2024, so, a long time for the company to bring out a perfect product and learn from the mistakes of other beta testers. What are your expectations from the Ram 1500 BEV? Share them with us in the comments section.
