Remember Edward Scissorhands from the namesake 1990 film? Well, Cadillac has introduced the character 30 years later to advertise its recently unveiled all-electric SUV, the Lyriq. It’s not Johnny Depp this time around; Timothée Chalamet has reprised the role of Depp and Winona Ryder’s son, Edgar, who has inherited his dad’s scissor hands and suffers from the same difficulty of doing the basic tasks around. A different scenario in a different generation, but everything in this one-minute long ad falls in place.

Tim Burton’s “Edward Scissorhands” was about a humanoid named Edward, who was an unfinished creation that had scissor blades instead of hands. His lady-love, Kim Boggs, was played by Winona Ryder, and she’s here in this ad too, introducing us to her son, Edgar.

But, there’s one aspect of his life that his mother could make better – driving; or rather, commuting in this case. Kim Boggs gets Edgar the Cadillac Lyriq that comes with the handsfree driving technology Super Cruise which allows him to get behind the wheel successfully. All-in-all, the ad showcased Edgar’s daily struggles in the present day without dragging it too much, and also managed to sell one of the Cadillac Lyriq’s best feature. Cadillac aired the ad during the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl LV.

Speaking of the Cadillac Lyriq, it will come with a rear-wheel-drive configuration as standard and an all-wheel-drive layout as optional. It is sized similar to the Cadillac XT5, but rides almost four inches lower and has a longer wheelbase.

The Lyriq’s selling points, however, have been the massive 33-inch diagonal LED display and the handsfree technology Super Cruise. The Lyriq will come with GM’s latest version of the Super Cruise, which was first introduced on the Cadillac CT6 four years back, but now comes on the 2022 Hummer EV as well.

This driver assistance feature offers hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of enabled roads. If Cadillac decides to offer it with automatic lane changing, then all you have to do is flick the turn indicator and the vehicle will switch lanes on its own. Given that Cadillac went on to promote this feature on the upcoming all-electric model, we are pretty sure it will be the best Super Cruise version that the automaker has to offer.
