The Ford Mustang Mach-E has come to usher in a new era for Ford and the Mustang Name. It’s the first Mustang EV slated for production, and it’s the first crossover to wear the Mustang Name. Along with its debut, we learned that the Mach-E can charge at the rate of 3 miles per hour on a typical, 120-Volt home outlet, and we started wondering: just how does that compare to other models on the market?
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is Very Slow Charging on 110 Volts
Electric cars have massive batteries, so we can’t expect them to take a full charge in a hurry when plugged into a traditional outlet, but shouldn't we have some kind of standard? That means that if you plug it in at work for 8 hours, you’ll get just 24 miles of range. For the models with 300 miles of range, it will take 100 hours for a full charge on 110-volt or 4.16 days - that's more than half of a week. In comparison, that’s slower than most of the competition, including the Kia Niro EV, Jaguar I-Pace, Aud E-Tron Quattro, and the Tesla Model X. All of these competitors charge twice as fast at 110-volts, with the exception of the Audi that gets 5 miles of range per hour, 2 miles more per hour than the Mustang EV.

Ford Mustang Mach-E Charging at 240 Volts (Level 2)
The chances are that you won’t find a 220-240 volt charger at work, and even if you do, the amperage output probably won’t be that great, and it won’t charge as fast as it could. Ford claims that you can get 22 miles per hour of charging at 220-volts. That’s identical to the I-Pace and just 0.6 miles per hour short of the E-Tron, but it falls below the Kia Niro EV and the Tesla Model X, the latter of which can do up to 31 miles per hour at 220 volts with the right amperage flow.

Other Charging Options for the Ford Mustang Mach-E
Of course, you don’t want to waste your life away sitting at home waiting for the Mach-E to charge at the rate of 3 miles per hour or even 22 miles per hour. The 240-Volt option is decent for those who charge overnight and drive less than 230 miles each day, but if you do a lot of driving, you need a better solution. . Out and about, however, you’ll have to be on the lookout for Chargeepoint or EVGO stations.
These are the two companies that Ford has contracted to provide charging solutions in the open world, and they will give you access to about 75-percent of the country’s charging infrastructure (about 12,500 stations and 35,000 individual plugs.) That’s a full charge for some of the Mach-E trim levels or a 94-percent charge in one hour if you have the model that’s good for a theoretical 300 miles.
