Were you excited to see the new Porsche Carrera S and Carrera 4S at the Los Angeles Auto Show? Who wasn’t? The eighth-generation of the 911 is more refined than ever and is all set to carry the rich legacy of this renowned model. However, another bit of news that grabbed eyeballs is that there might be a hybrid version of the 911. Before you get your hopes high, the 911 hybrid is still at least four years away.

According to Auto Express UK, August Achleitner, the 911’s product line director, confirmed that the hybrid version of the 911 but won't come soon. “It will be the next evolution of this car, that means at least four years from today,” he told the publication. If that is a little too long for you to wait, you can go for the 911 Carrera S that will hit the U.S. showrooms next summer. It will feature a 3.0-liter, six-banger engine that produces 443 horses and 390 pound-feet of torque. It will start retailing at $113,200.

For purists and enthusiasts alike, the thought of a hybrid Porsche 911 is baffling; let alone owning or driving one. But don't fret – unlike the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s plug-in hybrid technology, the 911 hybrid will focus on performance. “When I am thinking about a hybrid version of the 911, I do not mean like the Panamera or Cayenne, I mean like the 919 Le Mans car,” Achleitner said. It is expected to come with an exhaust energy recovery system and a lithium-ion battery to power the front axle. This way, you won’t have to plug your 911 into a socket.
