• Is The Audi S8 Good Enough To Take Down The RS6 Wagon?

Both the vehicles boast similar power outputs and performance specs, but the different body styles make the race unpredictable

There’s no question that Audi has created a monster in the form of the RS6 super wagon. Wagons are generally considered boring people and luggage haulers, but when they make 600 horses and look sexy, they suddenly become the most practical performance vehicles money can buy you. The RS6 boasts of insane performance specs, but can its own family member, the S8, beat it on a drag strip? The folks at Carwow thought it would be a good idea to find that out and it’s not a bad idea.

Similar Performance Specs, But Different Body Styles

The Audi S8 is powered by a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that makes 571 horses and 590 pound-feet of torque. The RS6 comes with the same engine under the hood and produces the same amount of torque, too, but churns out 600 ponies. The sedan takes 3.8 seconds to sprint to 60 mph from rest whereas the wagon takes 3.6 seconds.

Power is sent to all the wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive system in both the vehicles. The S8 isn’t a light vehicle as it weighs close to 4,920 pounds, making it close to 350 pounds heavier than the super wagon. With this information at hand, the RS6 seems to have an edge on paper.

But, Did The RS6 Actually Win?

The two Audis went up against each other in three drag races and the sedan won all of them.

This is surprising because it is heavier and has almost 30 horses fewer. The result was quite different in the case of rolling races as the RS6 was no match to the S8. As for the brake tests, again surprising results, because the heavier S8 took longer to stop.
