The 2021 Tesla Cybertruck just broke cover at the 2019 Los Angeles Auto Show and we are still struggling to cope with its polygonal design. But weirdness aside, the 2021 Cybertruck promises to be an extremely capable and fast truck.

Back in June 2019, Elon Musk said that the electric truck will be a better sports car than a basic Porsche 911. The figures confirm this apparently insane claim, so let's see how much better the 2021 Cybertruck really is than the iconic 911.

Tesla Cybertruck vs. Porsche 911 Sprint Comparison

Before we throw the Cybertruck and the 911 in the pit, you need to know that Musk was actually talking about the range-topping truck. The base Cybertruck will hit 60 mph in 6.5 seconds, which is slower than every 911 out there. The dual-motor version is also slower with a sprint rated at 4.5 seconds. However, the range-topping model, which will feature the Plaid tri-motor drivetrain, is supposed to blast from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. This is indeed quicker than the base Porsche 911, which hits 60 mph in four seconds in standard trim and 3.8 seconds with the Sport Chrono package.

The Cybertruck would also be quicker in a drag race, as the range-topping version needs only 10.8 seconds to run the quarter mile. That is quicker than all production models out there, except some supercars. The presentation video shows the Cybertruck winning a drag race against a 911, which is cool, but it seems that the 911 is actually the outgoing generation, despite Musk's claim that it's the latest version of Stuttgart's coupe.

The Cybertruck won't be as quick as the upcoming Porsche 911 Turbo to 60 mph, but hey, Musk never said it would anyway.

Tesla Cybertruck vs. Porsche 911 Top Speed Comparison

But while it's indeed quicker than the 911, the Cybertruck has a lower top speed. The base truck will hit 110 mph, the mid-range model will reach 120 mph, while the range-topping version will top out at 130 mph. There's a big difference compared to the 911, which hits 182 mph in base Carrera form. The 911 Carrera S is even faster, being rated at 191 mph. But while the Cybertruck is slower than the Porsche 911, it's competitive when compared to other trucks, especially given the all-electric drivetrain.

Tesla Cybertruck vs. Porsche 911 Price Comparison

Sure, a price comparison for the two is ridiculous since they don't compete in the same market, but it just goes to show that you can buy a quicker vehicle for a smaller sticker. The range-topping, tri-motor version, the only one that's quicker than the Porsche 911, will start from $69,900. That's $18,000 less than the base 911 Carrera and a whopping $43,000 less than the 911 Carrera S.

Is the Tesla Cybertruck Really "Better" Than a Porsche 911?

Impressively enough, the Cybertruck is actually better than a Porsche 911. But only if we're discussing Elon Musk's claim that it will be quicker. The Cybertruck is indeed quicker than the 911, but it falls behind the sports car in other departments, like top speed.

Of course, the Cybertruck won't be able to match the 911's capabilities on the race track, simply because it wasn't designed to do that. The tri-motor version will probably generate more power than both the 911 Carrera and 911 Turbo S, but we will find out more about that when Tesla rolls out the full details. But bottom line for now: the Cybertruck is quicker than the Porsche 911!
