Toyota launched the current Hilux back in June 2020 with changes inside out and a bump in the power figures. Now that the hype has died down, Toyota teamed up with Arctic trucks to create a new version of the Hilux called the AT35. The Hilux AT35 comes with tweaks and additions that make it the most off-road friendly truck in the lineup. Is this the company’s answer to the Ranger Raptor?

The AT35 is based on the new Hilux Invincible X Double Cab. The company has re-engineered the vehicle’s frame, inner arches, and bodywork, and equipped 17-inch ET-25 Arctic wheels on all four corners. They come wrapped in 35-inch 315/70 section BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. The other changes on the outside include the company’s signature flare package for the front and rear wings, extended-profile side steps, AT35 badging, and a 30th-anniversary decal.

The truck also comes with a Bilstein performance suspension system, featuring front springs and dampers, anti-roll bar adjustment, and rear dampers with extended shackles. This has raised the AT35’s stance by 1.6 inches at the front and 0.8 inches at the rear. Courtesy of all these changes, the truck now has better approach and departure angles. They are rated at 38- and 29 degrees, an increase of nine- and three degrees, respectively.

In this off-road avatar, it measures 209.6 inches in length, 78.3 inches in width, and 75 inches in height. The front track is 65 inches wide, whereas the rear track is 65.4 inches wide, both increased by 4.3 inches. The truck sits 14.8 inches off the ground, which is 2.6 inches higher than the standard model. The truck’s curb weight is rated 5,009 pounds, which makes it 159 pounds heavier.

The Hilux AT35 comes with the 2.8-liter engine under the hood that makes the same 201 horses and 369 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to the wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. Arctic Trucks has also optimized the torque and drivability by re-gearing the front and rear differentials.

The conversion kit is offered only for the Hilux Invincible X Double Cab model and is priced at £18,780 excluding taxes, which roughly translates to $25,800. The Hilux Invincible X Double Cab is the top-end model and costs £40,475 in the U.K., which is approximately $55,600. This means the total conversion will cost you around $81,400.

The converted trucks don’t mess with Toyota’s 5-year/100,000-mile new vehicle warranty. Every AT35 comes with an Arctic Trucks certificate of authenticity. The price seems a little too steep, but there will be takers for it. What are your thoughts on this kit? Share them with us in the comments section below.
