We’ve certainly heard of cars being powered by various types of aircraft engines, but never an airplane fuselage powered by a car engine. But, that’s exactly what is being proposed here with this Learjet limousine, a fully-functional and road legal limo built around an actual Learjet fuselage.

The idea might sound childish, but for the right buyer, the asking price of $5-million will seem like pennies considering the magnificent and utterly unique vehicle they’d be receiving.

Now up to eight people can be accommodated inside where they are treated to illuminated plexiglass panels on the roof (which show the riveted structure of the fuselage, to reinforce the idea that you are indeed in an airplane), a big TV, plenty of speakers, and an LED infinity floor and plenty of mood lighting.

Mechanically, the project is based around an unnamed one-ton pickup truck, although many of the components did have to be custom made specifically for it.

It is definitely a well-done vehicle, even if pointless and overpriced, and it can definitely get the right kind of people into a party mood. I mean the two exterior engine housings are now used for speakers (with an illuminated panel in the back to symbolize a jet engine’s exhaust) and on this vehicle “raising the flaps” literally refers to exterior flaps that raise to reveal yet more speakers.

There are definitely some scenarios where a vehicle like this could work, but I don’t think it’s going to be hugely popular, based primarily on how much it costs. Plus some people may not like it at all and also question its safety credentials - not that traditional limousines are particularly safe, but this is a fairly fast, untested vehicle that wouldn’t really drive people from place to place. It's more of a vehicle that is brought to a venue just to have people look at and inside it.
