We could expect an R8 with around 600 horsepower

Everyone knows that Audi R8 lives on borrowed time. A successor will happen, but not as we know it:->art193913] reports suggest that the next R8 will drop the current V-10 engine and will be offered with an electric powertrain. That decision comes because Audi wants to go all-electric by 2026.

However, until that happens, Audi is preparing one last hooray for the current generation R8. Our spy photographers caught an R8 test mule testing during winter conditions and it is believed to be the R8 RWD GT.

These spy shots come just a few weeks after Audi unveiled the R8 V-10 Performance RWD, so it is understandable why people believe this will actually be a GT version. Of course, there are other rumors suggesting that this is actually a prototype equipped with just some performance parts prepared for the facelifted R8.

So, how exactly do we know this is a special R8? If you look closely to the prototype, you will notice that the front lip looks a bit different, and the rear wing is way bigger than usual.

Of course, we should probably expect some changes under the hood too. As a reminder, the recently launched R8 V-10 Performance RWD delivers a total of 562 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. If we were to look at the previous generation Audi R8, the GT version was offered with a V-10 engine that delivered a total of 560 horsepower - a significant increase over the standard 525 horsepower in the standard R8. With this in mind, we can expect the new R8 RWD GT to deliver around 600 horsepower.
